The race down was every bit as exhilarating as the children expected. They enjoyed the sheer speed and peace of it. Such a contrast, the excitement and the sense of harmony with the wildness of the mountain. This was something they both loved to do. They would have to ask their parents to take them skiing like their father had promised for years.
"I wonder if we can have sledges that glow in the waking world as well." Elannah thought.
Closer to the bottom of the slope they could see the three others in a group waiting for them.
"How do we stop?" Sam yelled across to her.
"When all else fails, find a soft landing." Elannah reminded Sam of her father's advice. "Over there!" She pointed to the right of the waiting group where there was a clump of snow that looked soft."
"Yeehaw!" Sam yelled back, "I'll go first!"
Elannah grinned and waved him on, she stuck out her feet to start slowing herself down.
Sam did too but he soon realised he was going way too fast. He thumped into the powder wall and came to an abrupt stop. Leaning back he giggled. "That was FUN!"
Elannah thumped a little more gently into the snow next to him.
"Look at you. You look like a snow girl!" Sam giggled and pointed at her.
Elannah grinned and joined in with the gleeful giggling. "And you look like a snow boy. All we need are carrot noses and some stone eyes."
"What on earth are you two laughing about?" Pokey had come racing over to see if they were alright after they had crashed into the snow bank.
He looked at them and then he too started to laugh, his sniggering laugh. "You look like a good pair of snow children.... maybe we should make a family."
"Another time." Elannah promised.
